Creative enterprise launch - Press Release
Bespoke commissions - Art and Furniture - accessible to all
New social enterprise seeks to shake-up the art and design worlds by simplifying the way buyers connect with makers, with an added emphasis on sustainability.
We all love great art and design, but the idea of commissioning something original can appear daunting, with few people knowing where to go to find the best makers, or what questions to ask.
Launching today, Commission It - a new social enterprise based in Greenwich, London – revolutionizes the commissioning process, making it much easier for anyone to order bespoke creations, from paintings, sculpture and photography to furniture and even kitchens.
Commission It’s online platform uses the latest digital technologies to facilitate commissions from conception to completion. Businesses and individuals specify what they are looking for, using an intuitive mood-board to shortlist thousands of images. They then select design preferences, materials, and colour choices, as well as their budget and timescale.
Commission It then takes the strain, approaching artists and artisans who can meet the brief, and - once the customer gives the green light - brings the project to life! Much more than a matchmaker, Commission Itoversees every step of the process, handling payments securely and ensuring contractors agree to a Makers’ Code of Conduct, which protects both maker and client if anything goes wrong.
As founder Amin Saleem explains, “We don’t like to follow pre-defined concepts. People don’t want boring standardized furniture any more, they want their home or business to ooze creative flair and reflect their own personality. We’re aiming to facilitate that - at an affordable price - so that bespoke pieces become accessible for everyone. We are making work available from up-and-coming artists and designers still studying at leading art colleges, as well as established artists and artisans from a wealth of different fields.”
Social and Sustainable
Commission it cares passionately about the environment and supporting a fair society. The company is a certified Social Enterprise, which means it cares about people and the planet before profit, and pledges 51% of its profits towards beneficial projects, with a focus on supporting independent designers, artists, artisans and makers. Commission It is also a supporter of the circular economy, limiting environmental damage through unnecessary waste disposal. The company is looking to work with the best and most innovative up-cyclers and aims to incorporate recycled materials in many of the commissioned pieces produced.

From Bespoke to Open-Source
Commission It already has around 80 independent makers signed up to offer their services and create commissions, with the aim of increasing this to a unique community of 500 artists, designers and artisans over the next year.
Alongside working with fantastic, highly-skilled makers, Commission It will also make use of innovative new technology to produce commissions in-house. This will include working with Open-Source furniture designs to produce pieces using Maslow CNC cutting machines, and exploring the potential of AI and robot-generated artwork.

Commission It founder Amin Saleem previously created the award-winning car industry consumer platform AutoeBid, which took over £230m in orders.
